New Prague Veteran’s Memorial
About The Memorial
The ultimate goal of this memorial is to pay respect to all Veterans that have served in the armed forces with an emphasis to honor those who have been killed in action. The location within New Prague Memorial Park, next to the library, will provide a place within the community to personally observe the dedication and sacrifice of all who have served. In order to pay the greatest respect to those who have sacrificed it all for our Freedom, a wall will be placed commemorating all community members who were killed in action.
The Design
The current purposed memorial will have 5 pillars stationed on each corner of a star in the center of the memorial. The star is symbolic for the gold star families who have had a loved one killed in action. The pillars will honor all veterans past and present, with no requirements on living in the New Prague area. Whereas the back wall will honor those who were killed while in service, and who have lived within a 20 mile radius of the New Prague. The podiums on the side and at the entrance of the memorial will provide opportunities for remembrance quotes, information about the memorial and lists of the memorial’s supporters.
History of the Memorial
On November 18, 2012 the town of New Prague suffered a tragic loss of LCpl Dale W. Means: a 23-year-old Marine who was killed in action in Afghanistan. In order to honor him and all the other Veterans within the community, the family of LCpl Means has proposed a memorial to be placed within the town of New Prague.
